Rights Violations
Broiler Chickens British Columbia, Canada, June 12, 2017 "the footage shows a range of 'appalling acts' including the ripping off of a chicken’s leg, kicking birds into the air and sexually explicit behavior [sic]" https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/canada/undercover-video-shows-sadistic-chicken-abuse-on-b-c-farms-animal-rights-group-1.3456548 Egg-Laying Chickens Canada, 2018 Baby chickens are ground up alive in factory farms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZEsElYyO0Y Pigs The abuse of pigs in Canada is no different to in America or the UK. Sows are kept in cages so small they can't even turn around. Piglets have their tails, testicles, and likely teeth cut off - all without anaesthesia. "Sub-standard" piglets are picked up by their hind legs and have their skulls slammed into the concrete floor repeatedly. Sometimes they're not even dead yet when they're thrown into the garbage. This is called "thumping".
CEO of Canada’s Federation of Humane Societies, Barbara Cartwright, predicted Canadians are in for a shock. “They are not used to seeing this,” she said. “They still believe animals are being raised in the old farm style.” [...] “The conditions are horrible,” he [the whistleblower] told W5 in an interview. “Nothing could prepare me for what I saw. There are thousands of pregnant pigs in these crates nearly their entire lives.” [...] after watching images of one employee appearing to botch the task of euthanizing a fully grown pig, Dr. Ian Duncan of the University of Guelph, called it, “…the worst cruelty inflicted on an animal that I have witnessed in many years.” [...] experts interviewed by W5 concluded that the actions of the farm staff are within accepted industry standards and likely did not break any laws. [This is legalised animal abuse and torture.] [...] [These practices] are all standard across Canada.

Punishing Activists
British Columbia, Canada Whistleblowers exposed criminal animal cruelty. The animal abusers weren't even charged. Instead, the whistleblowers were. Two of the four were given permanent criminal records. https://excelsior4.org/ https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-excelsior-4-legal-defense-fund Quebec, Canada Animal advocates criminally charged, pigs in tiny cages they can't even turn around in, massive fire hazards. https://twitter.com/AnimalJustice/status/1514966828316983303?s=20
Ag Gag
Ontario, Canada, 2023 Bill C-275 "This bill claims to be about protecting biosecurity on farms, but in reality, it is an “ag gag” law (agricultural gag law) [...] threatening undercover whistleblowers with steep fines and even jail time for exposing animal cruelty [...] Bill C-275 makes it an offence to enter farms and slaughterhouses without permission in a manner that could expose animals to disease. This is unnecessary and redundant. It is already illegal to trespass on farms in every single province, and people who enter farms without permission can already be prosecuted under these provincial laws. Animal advocates have never introduced a disease to a farm. [...] In the last Parliament, a nearly identical bill was introduced and was strongly opposed by concerned citizens across the country, the CFIA, and the Liberal government." https://action.animaljustice.ca/page/136054/action/1?ea.url.id=6594995 Alberta, Canada, 2019 Bill 27 "Bill 27 makes it an offense to be on a property if permission was obtained by false pretenses. The new law also increases the maximum fine for trespassing from $2,000 for a first offense to up to $200,000 and jail time. According to Canadian animal law organization Animal Justice, this provision will affect the ability of whistleblowers who record and expose animal cruelty on factory farms because failing to disclose on a job application that a worker is affiliated with an animal-rights organization could be considered a false pretense." https://vegnews.com/2019/12/new-law-in-alberta-canada-passes-to-conceal-animal-cruelty-on-farms
