๐งฎReducetarianism vs Veganism
Data
Data shows that reducetarians (like "50% vegans") are less likely to stick with it than those who commit to being plant-based (sometimes as a part of veganism), who are >2x more likely to stick with it. "Those pursuing stricter goals were more likely to succeed, with planned vegans โ the only group where the majority were not already following their planned diet โ twice as likely to meet their goals at six months than meat reducers." https://forusallsite.wordpress.com/2019/03/07/do-meat-reducers-actually-eat-less-meat-the-meat-reducer-typology/
Extrapolation
If something is wrong, and you do it anyway, your mind seems to rationalize that it must not actually be wrong. Which would explain the behaviour of reducetarians being more likely to fail their diet. Whereas vegans are consistent with their belief that animal products are unethical.
Takeaways for Activism
For this reason, and because arguing for reducetarianism would be arguing that some amount of exploitation is okay (which confuses the vegan message), animal rights activists typically never advocate for reducetarianism.
